LPSD creates initiatives and programs that have supported Orphaned and Vulnerable Children located in the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya. They are currently members of the Affiliate Program with The Sanctuary Network and are working to provide food programs and basic needs for the children in the camp.
Learning Permaculture for Social Development is an initiative in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya, that empowers refugees with sustainable agricultural skills. Using permaculture principles, the program teaches participants how to cultivate food efficiently, restore degraded land, and build self-sufficient communities. Through hands-on training, refugees learn to design productive gardens, harvest rainwater, and use natural resources wisely. This initiative not only enhances food security but also fosters environmental stewardship and economic independence. By equipping refugees with practical knowledge, Learning Permaculture for Social Development helps create resilient communities capable of sustaining themselves beyond the challenges of displacement.
Programs
In Kakuma Refugee Camp, we have a poultry farming project that empowers widows and teenage mothers. We also train the refugee community in permaculture design to ensure they can maintain their own gardens as a source of livelihood. Furthermore, we provide training in mushroom production to the refugee community as another means of livelihood.
